BMI Calculator

Body mass index with the WHO or the Asia-Pacific thresholds, plus the healthy weight range for your height.

BMI

22.9 Normal

BMI does not distinguish muscle from fat, and says nothing about where weight sits. Read it as one rough signal, not a diagnosis.

Two sets of thresholds, not one

BMI is weight divided by height squared. The arithmetic is not the interesting part — the thresholds are.

The WHO calls a BMI of 25 overweight. The Asia-Pacific classification, used across Korea, Japan and China, puts that line at 23, because the same index carries more metabolic risk in those populations at a lower value. A calculator that applies one set to everyone tells a large share of its users the wrong thing, so the choice is yours here.

What it does not measure

BMI cannot tell muscle from fat, and says nothing about where weight sits — which is the part most strongly associated with risk. A trained athlete and a sedentary person of the same height and weight get the same number. Treat it as one rough signal among several, not as a finding.

Frequently asked questions

Which standard should I use?

If you are of East or South Asian descent, the Asia-Pacific thresholds are the ones your clinician is likely to use. Otherwise the WHO set is the default.

Is my weight sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is transmitted or stored.
